Following the government announcements at the weekend, under the new tier system, riders living in tier 4 may not compete at NSEA events over the Christmas period. However, they can still compete in online competitions.
Our stance will be updated after the next government announcement at the end of the month. Organisers of NSEA events in areas of concern, who are planning on running events in January, will open their online entries later than usual and there will be a smaller window before entries close, as there is little point in taking entry money and then re-funding it.
We have not taken this decision lightly but feel that, as cases are rising in many areas and hospitals are reaching capacity, it is important that we support the NHS, particularly when the new strain of the virus appears to affect younger age groups more than was previously thought. Whilst children appear to show few, if any symptoms, the knock on effect could be devastating if they unknowingly pass it on to older generations.
Short term sacrifices will help to achieve our long term goals of getting together at Championships to compete and have some fun later in the year, which is what we are aiming for. In the meantime, remember how fortunate we are to have horses in our lives to give us another focus at this difficult time.
The NSEA team wish you a Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you in 2021.
